Listen here to this week’s edition of The Blues Come Calling:

If you were expecting a big bluesy welcome to one and all, then that’s just what you got and it came with a big thanks for the comments on last week’s show which said there was plenty there fill your blues boots . . . which is just how it should be. One of those who got in touch was Johanny Jackson, over there in California who got a tip of the hat for pointing me to New York’s bluesman, Tommy Z, who was swinging out to start the show this week with ‘Pumpin’. Then, for those who have been waiting patiently for something new from Colin James, then I signalled that they can relax, because he’s new album, Chasing The Sun’ will be with us next month with a track-list that has seven originals and four covers . . . and I brought a taster track ‘Devilment’ featuring harmonica ace Charlie Musselwhite.

There were big smiles here when Errol Linton’s new album arrived. It’s called ‘Breaking The Seal’ and although it is not all blues, it does have some great blues tracks. So, it became my album of the week and I started off my choices with . . . ‘Love Gone Cold’.

Shake ‘Em On Down – Errol Linton (Breaking The Seal – 2024)
I’d Rather Be Blind Crippled & Crazy – Mississippi MacDonald (With The Soul Fixers – 2017)

For those who like a little acoustic blues, then Rory Block made a timely arrival with her new album celebrating the music of Bob Dylan . . . it’s titled Positively 4th Street and it has several well known songs from Uncle Bob, including my choice . . . the bluesy . . . ‘Everything is Broken’.

There is someone on my giglist soon . . . Mississippi MacDonald . . . and when I asked him if this next song might be on the setlist for the night, he tantalisingly said I might be pleasantly surprised. I’ll have to wait and see . . . . the song is the Teenie Hodges penned classic ‘I’d Rather Be Blind Crippled & Crazy’ . . . but before we got to hear that from Mississippi MacDonald, there was a big thanks for stopping by for this week’s show and the hope that we’ll meet again the next time The Blues Come Calling. Until then . . . remember . . . have fun!
