Listen here to this week’s edition of The Blues Come Calling:

Well the bluesiest of welcomes to another edition of The Blues Come Calling and we’re were back with a playlist busting with new releases, some past favourites and maybe a surprise or two. Now, the blues must be in good heart, because there’s plenty of very good new releases and some classic blues albums getting re-released. So, we were spoilt for choice this week . . . as you can hear!

Getting us off to a good start was a familiar name, Trevor Sewell. He was back with something from his latest album ‘Calling Nashville’ . . . a track titled ‘You Ain’t What I’m Looking For ‘, which we followed with Ohio rock blues band, Five Horse Johnson with their eighth album, ‘Juke Leg Boogie’ and a little number called ‘Smoke Show’.

Tulsa based bluesman, Scott Ellison, firing up some sizzling blues guitar and showing off his powerful, soul-drenched voice on ‘No Man’s Land’ . . . . one of the very fine cuts on his latest album ‘Good Morning Midnight’. JW Jones came by with a preview of his up-coming album ‘High Temperature’. Then , carrying on the very honorable tradition of great blues artists from the Emerald Isle, we welcomed Mike Brookfield, who’s forthcoming new album is a great showcase for Mike’s excellent talents, demonstrated by the opening track on the album, ‘A Message For Willie Johnson’.

If a dash of country blues is what livens up your blues cocktail, then we offered more than a sip with celebrated blues duo Sonny Terry & Brownie McGhee with their take on ‘Stranger Blues’. Those with a soft spot for the old Piedmont-style of blues, then you’re sure to five-horse-johnson-jake-leg-boogieenjoy Joshua Jacobson’s latest album, featuring some fine guitar-work and current day stories delivered in that authentic Piedmont style.

We returned (enthusiastically) to the excellent 2015 compilation, ‘Blind Pig Presents California Blues’ for another fine track, this time by one-time Jefferson Starship guitarist Craig Chaquico with ‘Lie To Me’. Blind Pig also provided a preview of the excellent new album ‘Charmed and Dangerous’ by Milwaukee five-piece, the Altered Five Blues Band. Another new release came from a lady taking on the family musical tradition . . . . her Dad was Steve Marriott and she’s Mollie Marriott, who definitely deserves her own place in the music sunlight with her new single ‘Control’.

We got some very earthy blues from Louisiana Red & The City Blues Connection and their re-released album “World On Fire” which first appeared in1985. A big thanks goes to our regular guest Arfa Pinetop for tracking down an obscure album by the most excellent Diz Watson, who turned up on our playlist with his tribute to Amos Milburn . . . ‘Amos Boogie Woogie’. Then to close the show, we has something new from Elles Bailey’s album ‘Wildfire’. So,a big thanks for your good company this week and until the next time The Blues Come Calling . . . remember . . . have fun!
