I want to shout about it . . .

Listen here to this week’s edition of The Blues Come Calling:

.
It’s been a good week for the blues . . . . we’ve seen Kaz Hawkins winning the European Blues Awards, new releases from Bobby Messano, Billy Walton, Ruby and the Revelators, Dave Hunt and Amanda St John, all of which found their way into this week’s playlist. There were some great gigs too, including Red Butler, Billy Walton and The Blues Band. . . . and you won’t be surprised to find each of those here too.

It was Herbie Hancock’s birthday this past week and, although he’s best known for his music jazz and pop recordings, he did venture into some blues on occasions, so with our birthday best wishes, we played Herbie’s collaboration with Jonny Lang & Joss Stone on ‘When Love Come To Town’. Then, for those who favor the rootsy side of the blues, Delta Moon’s Southern style ‘Cabbagetown Shuffle’ was a real treat, as well as their great little promo video for the track. But, before all that we kicked of with the title track of Bobby Messano’s new album, ‘Bad Movie’ . . . .

There was a time when you heard nothing off a new album until the release day, but that’s not today’s ways and the new album by Taj Mahal & Keb Mo is a case in point. It’s not due out for some time yet, but the tracks from the album are being progressively released as part of the pre-release promotion and we featured the latest this week, ‘Waiting On The World To Change’, a title that seemed strangely apt right now.

Now, those who like their blues with a soulful touch are sure to have enjoyed Northern Ireland’s Amanda St John, whose style is more mainstream than bluesy, but her forthcoming album ‘Grow’ includes a rather fine number called ‘Show Me’ . . . and we needed no more encouragement.

We closed this weeks show with a track from the forthcoming new album ‘Soul Of A Man’ by The Billy Walton Band . . . and excellent it is too . . . including ‘Days Like These’, leaving the finale in the hands of Coco Montoya with another gem from his ‘Hard Life’ album. Then, it was all over for this week and we collected up the records and Cds and said our farewells. So, until the next time The Blues Come Calling . . . remember . . . have fun!
