Listen here to this week’s edition of The Blues Come Calling:

.
Well, after a busy week, it was strangely therapeutic to sit down with a selection of the best of the blues and it all came together wishing folks a very bluesy welcome to this week’s edition of The Blues Come Calling. January has brought a fistful of new releases, which we made very welcome and introduced to some ‘seasoned’ favourites, one of which by The Powder Blues Band kicked off our show.

One of the new releases came from Jim Koeppel, in the form of his latest album which includes some fine harp from Billy Branch as well as Jim’s notable talents. In April, we’re promised the new album by Detroit bluesman Marcus Malone. In the meantime, we’re plundering the preview copy of the album from Redline Music.

Hopefully, we cheered the lovers of scratchy blues with William Harris’s 1928 Bull Frog Blues. We also found Maria Muldaur’s take on Memphis Minnie’s ‘In My Girlish Ways’ with some tasty guitar work from bluesman Roy Rogers. Then, to prove our international credentials we featured the first release by Backbone Cast, a five piece band from Tampere, Finland.

We returned to that 40 Years of Stony Plain compilation and pulled out a

Amongst the new releases, we played a taster from the new album,‘Neckbone Stew’, by Big Daddy Wilson, with guests Ruthie Foster and Eric Bibb, and Eric was also featured in his own right with a classic song from his latest album. New Jersey, singer-songwriter, slide guitarist and pianist Peter Karp was back on our playlist.

Before time ran out on this this week’s show, we squeezed in a rocking little blues shuffle from BB & The Blues Shacks, appropriately titled ‘Goodbye Everybody’. Then it was time to thank everyone for their good company this week and invite everyone back again same time same place next week, when once again The Blues Come Calling. Until then . . . remember . . . have fun!
