Listen here to this week’s Cruising with The Commissioner:

.
If the truth be known . . . . we had far too much in the pending tray for this week’s Cruising with The Commissioner. There were recommendations from friendly faces, some gems heard on other radio shows and some new arrivals that all had to have their slot on our playlist. Our good pal Jamie Dell’Apa sparked an interest in New Orleans Cruising #2021veteran, Bobby Lonero, which led to a good deal of rummaging in the Cruising Library and we turned up a few of his ‘hard to find’ early recordings. So, we decided to pepper a few tracks by Bobby thought this week’s show.

There was a big thanks going out this week to Neil Pelligrin for digging out an excellent number by Benny Spellman. It was not one of Benny’s songs that gets a lot of plays, but it seemed very appropriate for Cruising with The Commissioner because it was ‘Calling All Cars’. But before that, we set off on our cruise with Sax Man Brown and his 1954 Meteor 45 ‘Sax-Ony Boogie’. . . .

This week we were later than usual with our Girls and Guitars feature, but we did not forget it. This week our subject was guitarist and singer revved_up_grey018Dani Wilde, who has no stranger to our playlists and she was back again with a particular favourite here . . . . her version of the Dana Gillespie song ‘Where Blue Begins’

Now there’s someone who might be known to our good pal Wendel Williams, that was rockabilly guitarist and singer Nick Curran who’s played all around Texas, at least when he’s not on tour, that was the title track from his 2003 debut album Dr Velvet which also features bluesman Jimmy Vaughan . . .

Thanks to Steve from Bristol band, Redhouse, we discovered a very inventive UK rockabilly band. These were The Rocker Covers who also hail from Bristol and brought us their treatment of ‘A Bad Case Of Lovin’ You’ . . . . followed by Redhouse with another inventive rockabilly interpretation of Pink Floyd’s ‘Another Brick In The Wall’

As we squeezed in our last track from Bobby Lonero, Mr Merlot demonstrated some frantic arm waving and pointing at the clock. So, we got Dimples Jackson’s ‘Ring A Ling’ to cover our return journey and we arrived back safe and sound, which may have been a surprise to some, since we started out not knowing where we were going and got back now not knowing if got there. But, we parked up the Cruise Mobile for another week in the hope that there were plenty of great tunes to entice you back again next week, same time, same place when we’ll call by in the Cruise Mobile, with a seat saved especially for you. So, until the next time we go Cruising with The Commissioner . . . . remember . . . . have fun!
