Lost inside the blues . . .

Listen here to this week’s edition of The Blues Come Calling:

Well, a very bluesy welcome to this week’s edition of The Blues Come Calling and as ever, we turned up with a whole hour of the best of the blues, which we kicked off there with a great opener by Trampled Under Foot and followed by something from a 2008 album called ‘Bona Fide Flip Side Rhythm & Blues’ by The Blues Maneuver. Then, it was a quality mix of anything from the 20s to the very latest releases.

Kansas roots rockers, Moreland & Arbuckle, were back on our playlist in time for their UK tour dates next month and we anticipated the UK summer tour by Debbie Bond with something from her latest album, ‘Enjoy the Ride: Shoals Sessions’. If you enjoy a little early BB King, there was a treat from BB’s album ‘The RPM Hits 1951-1957’.

If you haven’t come across Jon Gindick before, we offered a fine demonstration of his when-we-die-we-all-come-back-as-musicunique voice and impressive harp playing with a track from his latest album (delightfully titled) ‘When We Die, We All Come Back As Music’. Coming back too, was Vaneese Thomas with her 2014 album ‘Blues For My Father’ which included ‘When My Baby Gets Home’.

Checkin’ Up On My Baby – Schwartz Fox Blues Band (Sunday Morning Revival – 2016)

Sometime early next year we’re promised the debut EP by Tom McCartney and we took the opportunity to preview the title track ‘Well Dressed Man’. Our past playlists have included previews of the long-awaited ‘Blue & Lonesome’ album by The Rolling Stones, but it has been officially released this week, so we played their take on Eddie Taylor’s ‘Ride ‘Em On Down’. Meanwhile, we made a timely re-discovery of Leon Russell’s 2001 Guitar Blues album with its ‘Lost Inside The Blues’.

For the devotees of country blues, there was a fine example from Jolly Jumper & Big Moe, giving us their take on the cautionary tale . . . . ‘Cocaine Habit Blues’. . . . and we played out with something from The Schwartz Fox Blues Band and an album session that was long thought to be lost . . . fortunately, it’s been found and issued with extensive liner notes, some never before published photos and tracks like ‘Checking Up On My Baby’, which for me, has the feel of the early Paul Butterfield band, which can’t be bad at all! Then, it was time to head for the door, with cheery thanks for everyone’s company on this week’s show and that you’ll be back again soon. So, until the next time The Blues Come Calling . . . . remember . . . . have fun!
