Driving sideways . . .

Listen here to this week’s edition of The Blues Come Calling:

Well a big bluesy welcome to another edition of The Blues Come Calling. . . and if you like the blues, then you’re in luck because, as ever, we’ve got a whole hour of them here, with something old, something new, and definitely something blue.

We anticipated the forthcoming tour by Mike Zito, Albert Castiglia and Will Wilde with a track from each of them, which will be some comfort if you don’t get to catch them on tour. For those, like me, who like a little blues slide guitar, we featured Joanna Connor with a fine example in ‘It’s A Woman’s Way’.

The ‘old’ came from Jimmy Rogers, Little Milton and Freddie King, while the new came from Colin James, Deb Ryder, Jason Elmore & Hoodoo Witch, Tracy K and Joe Bonamassa. But, it all kicked off with the opening track from the forthcoming album by Colin James’s called ‘Blues Highways’ and that’s the opening track ‘Boogie Funk’.

Boogie Funk – Colin James (Blues Highways – 2016)
Driving Sideways – Freddie King (Texas Sensation – 1995)
Right Side Of The Grass – Deb Ryder (Grit, Grease & Tears – 2016)
It’s A Woman’s Way – Joanna Connor (Six String Stories – 2016)
Ain’t No Way – Kirk Fletcher (My Turn – 2010)
Maybe – Jason Elmore & Hoodoo Witch (Champagne Velvet – 2016)
Dr Jazz – Adam Franklin (Outside Man Blues – 2015)
Lonely Heart – Mike Zito (Keep Coming Back – 2015)

Pinetop’s Pick
Stormy Monday – Little Miltonadam-franklin

What Tomorrow Brings
Drowning At The Bottom – Albert Castiglia (Big Dog – 2016)
You’re My Only Girl – Will Wilde (Raw Blues – 2013)
Just A Little Lie – King King (Live – 2016)
What Have I Done – Jimmy Rogers (His Best – 2003)
What Tomorrow Brings – Tracy K (What’s The Rush – 2016)
See See Baby – Joe Bonamassa (Live at The Greek Theatre – 2016)

Perhaps, I should not readily admit it, but I really enjoyed putting together this week’s playlist. It had an enticing mix of familiar, favourite and new releases that signaled that the blues moves on, but is always ready to give a respectful nod to its past.Tracy K - What’s The Rush

We’ve been enjoying Tracy K’s new album, ‘What’s The Rush’ , and were sure to squeeze in her track ‘What Tomorrow Brings’. But, then we came, sadly, to our last choice on this week’s show . . . and we playing out with another Freddie King number, this time a tribute by Joe Bonamassa on his new album ‘Live at The Greek Theatre’. Then it was all over. So, until the next time The Blues Come Calling . . . remember . . . . have fun!
