Come on over to my house . . .

Listen here to this week’s edition of The Blues Come Calling:

Well, there may have been a sharp change in the weather here just lately, but there was no change in the timing or quality of this week’s edition of The Blues Come Calling. The records and CDs were all piled up ready for the appointed time and there was, as you would expect, a whole hour of them. There were plenty of new releases, a bit of scratchy blues, some old favourites and a surprise or two.
Now one of the joys of the week, was seeing the release of the new album by Jason Elmore & Hoodoo Witch, who we’ve heard here before on the show. But, their new album, ‘Champagne Velvet’, has some real contrasts in its tracks, so there was plenty of good stuff to choose from. Vaneese Thomas, was following in the footsteps of Rufus and Irma, with her solo releases in the late 1980s, but she back again with her latest album ‘The Long Journey Home’. Will Wilde and King King were here too, with tasters of forthcoming releases. But, perhaps the surprise of this week’s playlist was a fine piece of blues from the new album by Shakin’ Stevens. ‘Echoes Of Our Times’. But, before that, the show kicked off with the opening track from Deb Ryder’s newly released album ‘Gritking_king_live, Grease & Tears’ . . . and the swinging ‘Ain’t Gonna Be Easy’.

Boogie Boy – U.P. Wilson (The Texas Guitar Tornado Returns! – 2003)

Not for the first, our playlist included something by Kent band The Bad Pennies. Their current album, ‘Turned Up Again’, has more than a little good stuff on it and this time around we brought you ‘Mynah Bird’. Meanwhile, those in the know who’ve been waiting on this year’s Blues Caravan, should be smiling about now, because it’s out on tour right now, featuring Tasha Taylor, Layla Zoe and Ina Forsman. And they were all collaborating on Don Covay’s song ‘Chain of Fools’.

But, the sands of time soon started running out fast and it was time to say our farewells. So, we bowed out with U.P. Wilson and ‘Boogie Boy’, ever hopeful that you’ll be back again the next time The Blues Come Calling. Until then . . . remember . . . . have fun!
