Listen here to the latest edition of The Blues Come Calling:

.
Well, as we prepared the playlist for this week’s edition of The Blues Come Calling, some of the titles seemed to have a rather topical significance, but then blues songs so often have reflected events of the day. So, unhesitating, we followed our usual practice of pulling out some of the best of the new releases, along with a few old favourites, including some gems of the 60s UK R&B scene that were inspired by the positive feedback on last week’s inclusion of New Zealand band Brilleaux. As a result, we heard from London bands Nine Below Zero and The Count Bishops. But, we kicked off with the very welcome new release from Walter Trout and a track from his Alive In Amsterdam album, the celebratory ‘I’m Back’ . . . and aren’t we glad!

The Bottle, The Book & The Gun – Tinsley Ellis (Red Clay Soul – 2016)

Pinetop’s Pick . . .Tinsley Ellis - Red Clay Soul
Wait On Time – The Fabulous Thunderbirds (The Fabulous Thunderbirds – 1997)

Built for comfort . . .
Built For Comfort – Big Twist & The Mellow Fellows (Live From Chicago – 1987)
Wasted – Ana Popovik (Trilogy – 2016)
Serial Love – Ann Rabson (Music Making Mama – 1997)
Swear To Tell The Truth – Earl Hooker (Blue Guitar – 2006)
If I Get My Hands On You – Will Wilde (Live in Hamburg – 2015)

Well, Robin Bibi and Will Wilde both popped up on our playlist, because they were Ana Popovik - Trilogyamongst the great names on the programme for this year’s Blues On The Meadow, and we didn’t forget the ladies of the blues, because we also featured Ana Popovik and Ann Rabson, one time member of Saffire—The Uppity Blues Women.

For those who enjoy some swinging blues, we caught up with Big Twist & The Mellow Fellows and their version of that much recorded Willie Dixon song ‘Built For Comfort’, but all too soon, we were running out of time. So, we collected up the records and CDs, gave everyone a cheery wave and an invitation to join us again, same time, same place, next week when, once again, The Blues Come Calling. Until then remember . . . . have fun!
