Listen here to this week’s Cruising with The Commissioner:

Well, the political scene around here may be getting a little fractious, but at Cruise Control we are trying to retain some calm and serenity. Somehow, the prospect of not being eligible to enter the Eurovision song contest after a De Gaul type ‘Non’ from the Brits incruising-241 the forthcoming referendum, seems a fitting finale to the memory of Terry Wogan

Meanwhile, we spotted that it was Roger Daltrey’s birthday this week, so to wish him well, we dug out something from the early days of The Who, when they were known as The High Numbers . . . ‘I’m The Face’. . . . and there was plenty more besides.

We kicked off down the road with The Adventurers and a favourite here ‘Do It’ and we followed fast with a little number from Eddie Cochran, ‘Teenage Heaven’, which was featured in the film ‘Go Johnny Go’ and included Plas Johnson on sax . . . .

In our Girls & Guitars feature this week, the spotlight fell on Derba Farris, who leads her own Santa Barbara based band. The band has become well established around California and Debra has been recording albums since 1998. So, we picked a track from her 2006 album ‘Gotcha Covered’, which, as its title suggests, is a collection of covers, including the Neville Brothers’ song ‘Yellow Moon’.

But, as time ticked away, so we met up with Milt Trenier & His Solid Senders who seem to be having a riot of a time in the studio with ‘Flip Our Wigs’ . . . and we know a few who can do that too. Then, we were heading for home and, although we put plenty of others juicy gems to one side for another occasion, we held onto one, because it was guaranteed to send us home in fine style . . . . it was Delbert McClinton with his to take on Joe Turner’s ‘Lipstick Powder & Paint’.

If you didn’t notice all the places we cruised to on our adventure this week, you can’t have missed the great music along the way! So, as the Cruise Mobile rolled gently to a stop, we set about collecting up the records and CDs and putting them in those neat little piles that we always promise to file away . . . and maybe we will in time for next week’s Cruising with The Commissioner. But, until then, remember . . . .have fun
