Listen here to this week’s edition of The Blues Come Calling:

Well, with a big bluesy ‘hello’, we kicked off this week’s edition of The Blues Come Calling with a great favourite here by slide guitar maestro Roy Rogers. He’s no stranger to our playlists, but always welcome, as were The Blues Spiders, arriving from the Thames Delta (Southend-on-Sea) to make their welcome debut on the show with ‘Party Girl’.

Now, we need no excuse to play something from Charlie, Musslewhite, but it was Charlie’s birthday this past week, so that was good enough reason. There was also some lovely blues from the debut album ‘Sweet Surrender’ by Lauren Housley and something from the winners of this year’s Blues Foundation ‘Best Band’ category, The Delgado Brothers . . . . and more . . .

When the Blues Catch Up To You
Spent Money – Roy Rogers (Slide Zone – 1995)
Party Girl – The Blues Spiders (Two – 2016)
Long Lean Lanky Mama – Charlie Musslewhite (I Ain’t Lyin’ – 2015)
The Waiting Game – Lauren Housley (Sweet Surrender – 2016)
Blake’s Rag – Mike Bloomfield (Blues, Gospel & Ragtime Guitar – 1993)
Say It Like Magic Sam – Jimmy Adler (Grease Alley – 2015)
When the Blues Catch Up To You – Bettye Lavette (A Woman Like Me – 2006)
Pinetop’s Pick
That’s My Baby – Willie Dixon & Memphis Slim (Willie’s Blues – 1959)

Heal My Soul
Learn To Fly – The Delgado Brothers (Learn To Fly – 2009)
Daze Of The Night – Jeff Healey (Heal My Soul – 2016)
Nobody’s Fault But Mine – Betty Barksdale (2120 Sessions – 2013)
Can’t Take No More – Supersonic Blues Machine (West of Flushing, South of Frisco – 2016)
Bayou Vista Blues – The New Rock Ensemble (Southern Rock – 2011)

Plenty of real treats, including a preview of something new from the new album by Jeff Healey, ‘Heal My Soul’, then a track from new album by the Supersonic Blues Machine, ‘West of Flushing, South of Frisco’ which featured the much admired Walter Trout. But, all too soon, we were running out of time and we played out with the New Rock Ensemble and a rocking little item from their 2011 album ‘Southern Rock’.
