Cruising #2032mr

Listen here to this week’s Cruising with The Commissioner:

Well, the past week came with a too much unhappy news. We have been saying some very sad farewells recently, as well as remembering ‘the day music died’. But, we didn’t let ourselves get too gloomy, because there were plenty of musical treats to cram into this week’s Cruising playlist. Amongst these was a preview track from Carlos Santana’s forthcoming album, where he’s re-assembled the members of his original band to go back into the studio together. We won’t see the new album released until April, but have been enjoying ‘Anywhere You Want To Go’.

There was a respectful nod in the direction of Jamie Dell’Apa down in New Orleans for pointing us to a juicy gem from The Nitecaps titled ‘Snap Crackle & Pop’, which is hard to find, but well worth it! There was even an unexpected collision of interests between our good pals Arfa Pinetop and The Spongeman, who both had reason to know the music of bassist Bob Rennie, but it all kicked off with Ray Collin’s Hot Club and ‘Mine All Mine’ . . .

We enjoyed the guest choices by The Shake and Arfa Pinetop, along with a couple 50s treats in our Doo Wop Stop, and not forgetting our Girls & Guitars feature, which offered double bubble, because we wee focusing on two girl guitarists who happen to be twins, Mona & Lisa Wagner. They were originally from Austria but so loved the 60s Brit Beat sound that they decided to move to the UK and settle in Liverpool. We decided to play their cover of The Easybeats hit ‘Friday On My Mind’.

Time crept up on us from behind and sooner than we wanted we were heading home with Mike Sanchez & His Band, ready to park up the trusty Cruise Mobile, give it a quick polish, ready for next week . . . when we plan to call by, same time, same place, with a seat saved especially for you, to go Cruising with The Commissioner. So, until then . . . have fun!
