Cruising #40
Listen here to this week’s show:

.
Well, Halloween and Bonfire nights have past and so there’s nothing left to crowd out the full tilt concentration on the forthcoming festive season. But, thankfully, this week brought plenty of distractions and a few top class gigs to divert our attentions, which proved to be a great time. Our gigs included Mike Zito & The Wheel, well supported by Michael Brookfield’s band. It was also the annual UK BluesFest at the weekend, with a string of excellent acts on the programme and we much enjoyed Darrel Higham, the Norman Beaker band, The Blues Band, Georgie Fame, Chris Farlowe and more. We also got a real treat with a couple of much sought after tickets for Jeff Lynne’s launch of his new ELO album. So, it will come as no surprise to find a few of those folks neatly tucked into this week’s playlist.

Despite all this, when the Cruising hour arrived, out of the misty gloom came the trusty Cruise Mobile with its lights blazing, its radio blasting and all the friendly faces on board. But, we didn’t forget to save a seat saved especially for you, just so we can all go Cruising with The Commissioner. With customary fervour, we kicked off our musical adventure with Richard Berry and his classic ‘Yama Yama Pretty Mama’ and in no time at all we had the welcome return of Red Hot Max & The Cats . . . .

Mike Zito was on our giglist and it was a reminder that he was responsible for producing the recent album by Samantha Fish, who just happened to be the focus of our Girls & Guitars feature this week. She grew up in Kansas City and has been singing and playing on stage since she was 18 . She’s no stranger to our playlists and we chose a track from her latest album Black Wind Howlin’ and called ‘Who’s Been Talkin’?

We caught up with Georgie Fame doing some jump jive and it seemed only appropriate to include Louis Jordan and we know that will have been appreciated by more than a few amongst the Cruising Crew. But, when The 5 Royales took us right around the corner, we realised it was time to be heading home. So, we joined the very good company of Frankie Ford, Huey Piano Smith & The Clowns and ‘Roberta’.
