Cruising halloween 2

Listen here to this week’s show:

Well, the stores around these parts are clearly just itching to get their Xmas displays ready to tempt us, ever earlier, to stock up with more than we need and spend more than we intend. All that’s stopping them is another event . . . . Halloween. With the nights definitely drawing in, there’s been a distinct chill in the evening air around the Grand Duchy and a few misty moments too. All the right ingredients for Halloween and a suitably atmospheric intro to our spooky adventures for this week’s Cruising with The Commissioner.

So, this week, when we called by in the Cruise Mobile, we were all wearing our Halloween costumes and our playlist was fairly dripping with spooky, mystic and magic tracks. We kicked off our spooky cruise from Jumpin’ Gene Simmons’ ‘Haunted House’ and we never looked back . . . . except for a slight shiver and tremble, as we cruised on through the night with The Cadillacs and their 1959 Josie 45 ‘Peek-A-Boo’ . . . .

Black Cat – Brian Auger
Black Cat Rag – Willie Lane

Trick Or Treat – The Groovie Ghoulies
It’s Your Voodoo Workin’ – Charles Sheffield
Voodoo Mademoiselle – September Jones
Voodoo Voodoo – Mike Sanchez (with Imelda May)
Voodoo Love – The Souvenirs
Ghost Busters – Ray Parker Jnr

Even our Girls & Guitars feature had a Halloween theme this week, because we had a song about a black cat from Australian singer, pianist and guitarist, Kate Meehan. She was born in Hobart, Tasmania and after singing with the local choir, she learnt to play guitar and went busking around Adelaide for a few years when she left High School. She got a real taste for Chicago blues and recorded her first album in 1998 with the Kate Meehan Blues Band. But, no Halloween would be complete without the mystic presence of a black . . . . which just happened to be the title of the track we chose from her 2002 album, ‘Soulshaker’.

All too soon, our witching time was running out. So, to get us home safe and sound from our spooky adventures and vanquish all the dangerous spirits, we joined Ray Parker Jr and the ‘Ghost Busters’. Then, we were parking up the Cruise Mobile for another week and rather hoping that you enjoyed our special cruising playlist sufficiently to be enticed back again next week. That’s when we plan to swing by in the Cruise Mobile . . . . same time same place with a seat saved especially for you . . . . and the promise of even juicy gems and tasty treats. So, until the next time we go Cruising with The Commissioner . . . . remember . . . . have fun!
