Listen here to this week’s show:

Well, the prospect of a hosepipe ban came ever closer this week with the welcome arrival of some long overdue real summer weather. The Grand Duchy has responded quickly and with style . . . . he garden furniture, the parasols, the pink fizz, the chiller and an array of tasty snacks all appeared from their respective hibernation spots and generated some good spirited hours on the South terrace.

We’ve ventured out for a few gigs this week and had a friendly encounter or two with members of the Cruising Crew. Our good pals Pete & Diane were amongst the friendly faces in the crowd to see our favourite Tex Mex band and, not surprisingly a few of the tunes on the night found their way into our playlist this week. But we haven’t neglected some other promised treats from past weeks and a few recent arrivals via our cheery postman. So, when the appointed day and hour arrived, we were definitely up for a good time as we called by in the Cruise Mobile, with the windows down , the radio up, ready to Cruising with The Commissioner. . . . . and we kicked off this week’s cruise with the wonderful guitar work of Danny Gatton and vocals from Delbert McClinton with what they call ‘The Sun Medley’ . . . . and more:

Well, sadly, this past week we lost another great New Orleans artist, Harold Battiste. He had a hand in many notable early New Orleans recordings and in 1961, he formed the AFO label (All For One). He later went on to work with Sam Cooke and Sonny & Cher in LA. . . . But among the AFO label artists he recorded was Joe Jones and it was Harold Battiste who produced his hit “You Talk Too Much” . . . . so we put that in our playlist as a tribute.

It was a give away sign, when Mr Merlot started fussing about and looking at the clock. The message was clear that we needed to be heading for home, which we did with the finale song from our Tex Mex gig . . . . introduced on the night as the Mexican national anthem . . . . we came safely home with Ritchie Valens and ‘La Bamba’. So, until the next time we go Cruising with The Commissioner, remember . . . . have fun!
