Cruising with the Commissioner #31 (03.11.11)

Well, as the evenings get a little more chilly, our welcome on Cruising with The Commissioner gets decidedly warmer. Even for those who  might have stumbled upon the show by accident or through a malfunction of some technology, we’re pleased to have your company.

As well as Halloween, there’s been plenty going on at Cruise Control and lots of friendly faces calling by or being in touch, including  Lil-Sis, Richard Mann, DJ Leyton Rocks and Max Quirk. We managed to squeeze in a little adventure to catch a gig by DJ Wheeliebag and it was a riotous event  indeed . . . . ghostly, spooky theme and some great audience participation.

Once again, we scoured the Cruising library to pull together  a soundtrack for our weekly adventure across musical frontiers, in and out of  time zones and jumping genres. We set off in fine style in the company of a  couple outstanding R&B groups, The Clovers and The Drifters . . . . and followed on with Jesse Stone, with another side from the catalogue of Atlantic records.

Regular Cruising Crew members will remember that on Cruising with The Commissioner a couple of weeks back, we played ‘Gotta Get Away’ by Billy Butler & The Enchanters and, after some fruitful research, this week we found a copy of the song by Major Lance. Following close on his heels came a trio of tracks from the girls, because our previous selection seemed to go down rather well. We also pulled out some album tracks featuring early recordings by Jimi Hendrix, where he was a member of various studio and road bands for other artists.

Our good cruising was eventually interrupted by the clock, telling us we had to head for home, with barely enough time to say thank you to  everyone for their good company during the show. But we did and managed to thank Wireless FM for letting me play the  music I like on the show every Thursday. If we played some things that you enjoyed on the show, then I hope we can entice you back next week for another extravaganza of rock, soul and real R&B, when once again we’ll go Cruising with The Commissioner.

If you can’t wait till then, I recommend taking a listen to the Tuesday Mafia on Wireless fm, where The Spongeman, The Shake, Max Quirk and Johnny Alpha will make you an offer you can’t refuse and play you music you’ll never forget.

So, until we meet again to go Cruising with the Commissioner . . . .  have fun!
