Let’s get Cruising . . . .

Posted: May 5, 2011 in Hear This . . . . !

Well, there’s been an air of quiet satisfaction pervading the Grand Duchy of Bexleyheath this past week. A tentative start made on tidying The Commissioner’s archives and, barely back from their most recent Cruising escapade, our crazy Cruisettes have drooled over coverage of ‘that event’ in London, whilst others (or a more cynical disposition) have maintained an ecstatic indifference.

Even that hint of tropical utopia that descended upon the Dartford Delta last week seemed to linger long enough to suggest a promising threshold for ‘summer in the city’. Despite the distractions, the preparations for this week’s ‘venture in sound’ have been pursued with an unusual level of enthusiasm. Partly, due to the delivery of some great musical moments by others during the week, including DJ Johnny Alpha, who played ‘Tales of Brave Ulysses’ by Rotary Connection, Larry Grogan, who played ‘Michael’ by the C.O.D.s (covered in the UK by Geno Washington) and The Shake, who is championing The Montanas’ songbook and demonstrating what a great 60’s UK pop band they were. Great stuff!

Our good pal DJ Leyton Rocks was back this week, fresh from his latest film adventuring (the designer clothes and shades were a bit OTT though) and he came back with a blast from his seriously juicy vinyl and digital collection. So, together with The Shake and Max Quirk, Wireless FM was well represented in the Cruising with The Commissioner reception lounge for this week’s cruise. The journeys down Memory Lane with The Shake are becoming eagerly awaited events amongst the Cruising Crew and so we were pleased to welcome him back this week. Also, it was great to have Max Quirk on board for the ‘Three from me’ slot this week. He never fails to surprise us with his impressive knowledge and the gems from his extensive music archives.

The ‘Cinco de Mayo’ festivities coincided with this week’s cruise and we decided to include some hot Latin rock to mark the occasion. Of course, we felt obliged to dress appropriately and there can be few who have seen such elegance as my supersize sombrero, my bold, multi-striped poncho in spicy colours and my maxi size Pancho Villa moustache.

The Wireless FM chatroom was pretty busy this week and demonstrated the versatility of the visitors in variously, studying, drinking and dancing during our Cruise and all without the use of a safety net. For my part, I remain grateful to Wireless FM for another opportunity to play my choice of music and, if you enjoy this selection, why not join me next Thursday for another festival of rock, soul and real RnB, when once again we’ll go Cruising with The Commissioner. Until next time, have fun!

If you can’t wait till then, I recommend you take a listen to the Tuesday Night Mafia on Wireless FM, where they’ll make you an offer you can’t refuse and play music you’ll never forget.
